Time is running against the next Indiana Jones movie, which has a release date for July 2020 and whose filming has yet to start. However, David Koepp, the scriptwriter for the fifth installment of the saga of the adventurous archaeologist, revealed some details of the story in an interview.
Mutt Williams, the character played by Shia LaBeouf and appeared for the first time in “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, will not be part of the fifth installment. Find out why, in this note.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Indiana Jones 5 screenwriter David Koepp revealed that the character who played Shia LaBeouf in the fourth part of the saga is not within his plans and therefore will not be part of the film planned for 2020 : “Shia LaBeouf will not be in the movie,” he said. Although many viewers thought, initially, that their inclusion in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was designed to replace the father of its character in hypothetical future deliveries, but at the end of this last film it is revealed that the protagonist takes the hat from his son, indicating that his legacy as Indiana Jones had not yet come to an end.
After criticism of his questioning performance, the hatred of many fans towards his public persona and his unfortunate statements against the director, Steven Spielberg , is not surprising that Shia LaBeouf does not return to play Mutt.
For his part, Koepp confirmed what fans already knew since the film was announced: ” Harrison [Ford] will play Indiana Jones, that’s something I can assure .” The writer also gave some details of the plot of the film, which will revolve around ” some beautiful artifacts that are all looking for . ” Koepp did not reveal much, but he was enthusiastic and eager to start filming: ” I know we have a script that we are happy with. The work never ends, of course, and it goes on . ” He also said that Steven Spielberg is happy with the first draft, but warned that there is still much to be able to deliver the final version. In addition, it was recently announced that George Lucas , who helped create the stories for the other four installments, will not be involved in the film’s script.
Indiana Jones 5 , which is not definitive and will most likely change before the premiere, is scheduled for release on July 10, 2020. It will be directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall . So far, the only actor who confirmed his participation was star Harrison Ford , although it is expected that soon they might reveal more details of the film.
Harrison Ford will be repeating his historical role, but Mutt Williams, the character of Shia LaBeouf who is revealed to be the son of Indiana Jones in the film, is not contemplated within history , according to the writer. At the end of The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Williams participates in a scene where he is about to wear Jones’ mythical hat, but Ford interrupts to say that he still had time.
This led to the idea that the new delivery would be a sort of post between Ford and LaBeouf, but the poor reception of the character at the level of criticism apparently made it simply disappear from Disney’s plans.
Anyway, the company has expressed that they seek to continue the franchise beyond this fifth delivery , either with a new Ford adventure, or with a restart of the saga. Everything will depend on the health, the physical state and the desire of Ford to re-interpret this iconic character.
